Why Is My Pool Light Not Working?
Below are a few reasons why a pool light may not be working and how to fix these issues yourself.
1. Burnt Out Bulb
This is the most common reason why a pool light refuses to illuminate. Thankfully, in this event you’ll simply need to switch the lightbulb out.
Here is a quick, step-by-step guide to switching out a lightbulb:
- Turn off the breaker and all power switches.
- Remove both the lens and bulb.
- Replace your bulb with a new one.
- Test it by turning the light on.
- To ensure there are no air leaks, place the bulb underwater.
If the issue remains unsolved, the new lightbulb may simply be defective. Switch out the bulb and try a different one, at this time.
2. There’s Water Behind The Lens
When there’s water present in a lens, it can cause the light to completely burn out. If you believe this is the issue with your light, carefully remove the fixture. Next, dry the fixture and reassemble entirely with the new bulb.
Tighten the gasket once the light has been reassembled. The gasket has not been re-installed correctly if you see small bubbles forming. Reinspect the lens, checking for any visible holes, leaks, or warping.
3. GFCI Outlet Issues
If your lens does appear to be in working condition, it’s wise to direct your focus to the ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) outlet. If the GFCI outlets button is red, your light is not receiving electricity.
Inspect the breaker, fuse, and any switches that could be associated with the light. Make sure all of these components are in the “ON” position.
4. Broken Screw Hole
Older pool light models can have the screw hole break as time goes on. This will no longer hold the fixture in place. Simply insert a light wedge in order to keep your fixture in place.
If the fixture is not secure, water may leak into it and crush the light cord conduit. When the conduit suffers damage, it needs to be sealed as soon as possible.
